Data File Re-Sizing

Version Relevance: All versions

Issue: There have been isolated cases recently where datafile corruption has occurred because there was insufficient free space in a datafile.

Feedback: The maximum size of an Omnis datafile segment is 256Mbytes, and in most cases both CaliachMRP and Caliach Vision will automatically test for space on first login, incrementing the datafile automatically to add extra free space up to this value.

If the segment limit has been reached, Caliach Vision will attempt to add another segment, providing a single user situation still prevails. CaliachMRP will not add another segment automatically, or auto-increment the 2nd or subsequent segments. This must be checked for and carried out manually.

For maximum data security it is recommended that monthly system manager data integrity checks should include a system timing/performance test, which will also report free space in single user mode. If necessary the datafile size can then be increased or another segment added as appropriate, under File -- Advanced -- Re-Size Datafile ? in Caliach Vision or File -- Datafile Utilities in CaliachMRP.

Depending on transaction rates, 10-50MBytes should be adequate free space (20,000-100,000 blocks).
