SO Part Blocking

Version Relevance: All versions

Issue: I was wondering if there was a way to place a block on some parts so that they cant be added to Sales Orders.

I have several parts that have several revisions. Generally the latest revision is the one to be sold but the older revisions can be ordered under certain circumstances.

I have the Index code 2 set to either OK, OLD, Superceeded etc... and this works fine for the most part once you load the scratchpad and then filter it. But the girls doing the SO's just put the parts on as Quotations and then the appropriate people do a contract review. This is where we find they have made mistakes by putting the older rev part in the SO. Although training has helped to reduce this it would be much easier if there was some way to restrict from being used, even a warning would help.

Feedback: To be warned when adding items to a sales order, just set the "Change In Progress" flag under the Engineering tab pane of Part Maintenance for the item. Add any notes relating to the warning to the Notes field on the tab pane, and they will also be displayed to the user.

If you then set the system option optSONoEngChange to 1, users will be prevented from adding the part rather than just being warned.

This technique also applies to works orders, jobs and purchase orders, with corresponding options to control prevention or warning.
