Gaytoks, Master Pan Tuner

All over Antigua you hear pan music and I wanted to do a shot that reflected that.

I had heard of Gaytoks who was one of the islands 'master pan tuners' but that he was quite a private person. Eventually I got and introduction via two other contacts and went to visit him in one of the poorest parts of the capital, St Johns.

One we met we got on very well and I returned to photograph him again a few days later this time with a friend that was a classically trained musicial. My friend was amazed by the skill and accuracy that Gaytoks used to get his pans into true concert pitch with just simple tools.

When we had the book launch not only the great and the good of the island turned up but to my enourmous pleasure so did Gaytoks and his family.
